Future Prospect

Teaching

a. The aims and objectives of courses focus on the combination of libraries and new information technologies in order to meet the needs of future libraries. All courses are associated with librarianship and information science as well as the information technology.

b. Students at the Department have opportunities to learn about new technologies and receive the state-of-the-art training because lectures are always updated with the current trend and new concepts of libraries. In particular, the courses concerning information technology are always the main focus of our program.

c. Under the trend towards digital libraries, the Department puts great emphasis on information content service. As a result, how to carry on the concept into practice also becomes an essential issue for the Department. Therefore, all courses are designed for this purpose.

d. The Department encourages applicants from various areas for faculty positions. Especially, the Department welcomes experts in the areas of information technology and computer science, which will help students  improve their IT compentence.

e. The Department is working toward the establishment of a Ph.D. program in the near future.

Research

a. The goal of research for the Department is to create a user- friendly and effective searching environment in order to meet users' information needs. Therefore, connecting the knowledge of library and information science with computing skills is an important issue for the Department.

b. The Department also concentrates on the usability of Internet resources based on the theories of library and information science. In addition, we engage research efforts in the  development of theories of digital library in order to provide users with more effective and friendly services than ever.

c. With the belief of creating a library nirvana for users, the Department will make efforts in the spread of information by training professional librarians and conducting research to improve library services.

d. The Department has a strong ambition to become one of the most important academic units at Tamkang University and to gain more fundings for research projects.
